Alison's June Reads

Since I'm still not traveling outside of Singapore, I am still reading—a lot. I read 16 really good books this month. As always it is so hard to pick my favorites, but in honor of the Fourth of July, here are four books I’d wholeheartedly recommend.

The Knockout Queen—a lovely and tragic tale of a friendship between two high school misfits.

The Vanishing Half—a beautiful story of twins, one of whom “passes” as white. It is hard to believe the author is only 30! She is amazing!

Take Me Apart—a thriller with a side of mental illness—I loved it.

The New Jim Crow—I have so much to learn but one thing that this book clarified for me is that mandatory minimum sentencing must be reformed or abolished.
